TURN IT TO THE SIDE!

Undergraduate Thesis / Team of 2 / September 2022

In occasion of the final workshop, we focussed on the future expansion of the campus on Via Toscana in Parma. Through the study of solid spaces and voids, the needs of the students while adhering to the guidelines of the PNRR (National Resilience and Recovery Plan) post-pandemic, our group conceived the architectural composition of the following concept.

An inverted C shaped building defends a secluded courtyard from the morning traffic and away from life outside the campus. A thought that revolves around the meaning of community; a place where socializing is spontaneous and studying is an experience.

We wanted a skin that mimics the roofs of the industrial buildings nearby on the campus. But instead of putting the sawtooth on the roof, as factories do, we turned it to the side of the building, where it brings light and specific views to specific areas inside. This sawtooth skin rests on a mineral layer that dissolves into the ground.
